Shavegrass ~

Botanical Name: Equisetum arvense
Also Known As: Horsetail, Scouring Rush, Bottle Brush

Shavegrass, commonly known as Horsetail, is an ancient plant whose relatives date back hundreds of millions of years. Its distinctive jointed stems have made it easily recognizable throughout history and earned it names such as “Scouring Rush” because its naturally high silica content once made the plant useful for polishing wood and metal.

Shavegrass is naturally rich in silica, a mineral associated with the structural tissues of the body. Because of this, Horsetail has a long history of use in herbal traditions centered around hair, skin, nails, and connective-tissue wellness.

It has also traditionally been prepared as an herbal tea or decoction and incorporated into botanical tonics, vinegars, shampoos, and skin-care preparations.
