Cascara Sagrada, meaning “sacred bark,” is a North American botanical with a long history of traditional use, particularly among Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest.
The bark has traditionally been incorporated into short-term digestive and bowel-support herbal preparations. Properly prepared Cascara Sagrada bark is aged after harvesting before use; fresh or insufficiently aged bark can be excessively harsh on the digestive system.
