Pennyroyal ~
Botanical Name: Mentha pulegium
Also Known As: European Pennyroyal, Pudding Grass
Pennyroyal is a strongly aromatic member of the mint family native to Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. It has been known since ancient times and has a long history in European and Mediterranean culinary, aromatic, and herbal traditions.
Its leaves have an intensely minty, slightly peppery character and have historically been used sparingly to flavor foods and traditional herbal preparations.
Pennyroyal has also traditionally appeared in digestive herbal traditions, although because it is a potent botanical, it should be used sparingly and with considerable caution rather than as an everyday herbal tea.
