Vervain ~
Botanical Name: Verbena hastata
A warm infusion of vervain soothes and calms the nervous system. Extremely bitter, blend with better tasting herbs and sweeten with honey. Healing properties are attributed primarily to its bitter and stimulating effect on the liver and other organs. Can help heal any damage that has occurred to the liver. Useful in many diseases as a pain reliever and natural tranquilizer, an expectorant used to treat chronic bronchitis and relieve joint pain. Especially helpful when depression is related to chronic illness. Also known as the Herb of the Cross refers to the legend that the wounds of Jesus were dressed with vervain when he was taken down from the cross. It was also used as an ingredient in ancient druid love potions.
